HELIOSCHAR+ - Beam Quality Measurement
Helioschar+ determines the quality of heliostats by combining the measurement of the sunspot they generate and the determination of the normals on their surface.
HELIOSCHAR+ combines high dynamic range logarithmic detectors and multiple cameras to offer enhanced measurement precision. This approach enables non-tracking, accurate assessment of the solar spot’s intensity and distribution.
By effectively distinguishing between reflected and background light, our system provides a clearer and more precise understanding of heliostat performance, significantly improving the calibration and efficiency of heliostats in both new and existing solar power plants
- Reflected heliostat spot power distribution
- Measurement of the normal vector along the heliostat surface
Tilts or misalignments introduce beam distortions such as elongation, core displacement, or asymmetric energy distribution which indicate alignment errors or surface deformations
The results from the cameras measurements shows the angular difference between the ideal normal vector calculated for each point on the surface and the normal vector obtained by applying the methodology.
Key features
Modular design
The modular design allows the shape and size of the equipment to be modified to adapt it to any solar plant
Far Heliostats Characterization
The trend towards increasing the number of heliostats in CSP plants makes characterizing the heliostats further away from the tower a challenge with current methods.
High Sensitivity
HELIOSCHAR+ combines high dynamic range logarithmic detectors and multiple cameras to offer enhanced measurement precision.
